World Language Week Dazzles with Fashion Theme

Move over, Coco Chanel! St. Luke’s fashionistas owned the runway during our 2024 World Language Week. This five-day celebration, presented by St. Luke’s World Language Department, includes activities and music, as well as lots of French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin, and fun! This year’s theme was “fashion.” From April 15-19, Middle and Upper School World Language teachers conducted daily activities during lunch for students to enjoy while learning about languages and fashion from around the world.

Activities included:
  • A dress-up relay race, all in the target languages
  • Poupées en Papier — paper doll workshop led by the students in Le Cercle Français
  • Parfumerie Luca — A pop-up custom fragrance testing booth with scents created by MIle Briggs's Middle School students & the designLab
  • A runway show featuring SLS students narrating in French, Spanish, and Mandarin
  • International karaoke
  • French, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish musical performances from students and faculty at St. Luke’s International Coffee House
  • A conversation with the pros: Talia Moss '22, fashion business student at FIT; Susan Grunewald '07, French & Russian speaker, college professor, and published author; and Chase Fredriksen Isaacs '21, French speaker and George Washington University student currently living in Paris

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s World Language Week a huge success!
