About Debate

As members of St. Luke's Debate Team, students engage in different styles of debate with a focus on parliamentary debate. While learning to argue both sides of issues, debaters develop confidence, open minds, oratorical skills, listening and note-taking skills, and the ability to think and organize ideas quickly. Members compete throughout the school year at tournaments hosted by local leagues and universities.

St. Luke’s Debaters regularly qualify for the annual National Tournament hosted by the National Speech and Debate Association. In 2024, four team members qualified for the Tournament of Champions and one team placed 2nd overall.

St. Luke’s is committed to its award-winning Debate Teams and has a dedicated debate coach, Elijah Smith.
