A Fun-Filled and Tasty World Language Week

S.A.
From April 25-28, St. Luke’s World Language Department hosted its annual World Language Week, with this year’s festivities exploring culinary cultures.

Events included:
  • Sampling and voting for your favorite student-made mousses and salsas in a Dip Off Contest.
  • Discovering how ancient eating and drinking vessels were created and making your own
vessel at the Roman Pottery Workshop.
  • Listening to the musical stylings of students and teachers who sang in various
languages as part of the Coffee House Performances.
  • Making fortune cookies, complete with a custom-made fortune, at the Fortune Cookie Workshop.
  • Enjoying music from French-speaking artists at the student-teacher designed Francophone Jukebox.
  • Hearing the story of St. Luke’s parent and Iranian refugee Shiva Sarram, who, as a Lunch & Lead guest speaker, shared accounts of her journey to America and how language has played a critical role in her life.
  • Exploring the culinary delights and cultures from around the world at Café Luca.
  • Enjoying ethnic cuisines for lunch, with thanks to the FLIK staff!
A highlight from this year’s World Language Week was the “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” parody, titled, “We Don’t Talk in English,” which included students in grades 5-12, St. Luke’s World Language Department faculty, and lyrics in French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin.

Thank you to the dedicated World Language faculty, who put so much care, attention, and detail into planning this fun-filled week.
