Storm Teams Shine For Virtual Spring Homecoming

Daniel Clarke
St. Luke’s enjoyed its first, and we hope its last, virtual Homecoming on Saturday, April 24, with  four home varsity contests adding to the wonderful weekend of activities, which were organized by Director of Alumni Relations Stefanie Veneruso.

All St. Luke’s home contests were livestreamed, with girls lacrosse and boys tennis getting the events underway at 10am, when they competed against Holy Child School and Brunswick School, respectively.

Varsity baseball then hosted Christian Heritage School at 11am on the Class of 2015 Field, before girls varsity tennis took to the courts at noon to compete against Holy Child School.

The Storm baseball team continued its impressive start to the season with a convincing 10-0 victory against CHS. Ryan Higgins ‘21 was outstanding on the mound, pitching five scoreless innings and striking out 13 of 15 batters.

Girls tennis continued to build on its perfect start and moved to 4-0, with a 7-0 win against the Gryphons. The Storm played some excellent tennis with Audrey Magnuesen ‘21 winning 6-2, 6-0, Kelly Nuner ‘24 defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-0, Layla Magnusen ‘22 getting a 6-1, 6-2 win, and Liza Sieghart ‘24 completing the singles matches with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. In the doubles contests, Caroline Pellegrino ‘21 and Macy Millones ‘23 won 6-1, 6-1, CC Buono ‘23 and Kiley Galvin ‘23 won 6-2, 6-0, and Izzy Levi ‘24 and Kate Edwards ‘25 completed the matches with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph.

Veneruso was thrilled with how the weekend unfolded: “Though nothing compares to our annual in-person Homecoming, it was great to see so many alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends come together virtually to celebrate St. Luke’s. Honoring Marcus Smalls ‘90 and Dominique Bandoo ‘09 with the Alumni Artistic Achievement Award, watching Elyse Kim ‘21 interview Emma Powless ‘16, and seeing our Storm athletes compete were all highlights for me.”
