From Director of Character Education Kate Parker-Burgard:
For the fifth year, St. Luke’s students and faculty will be heading down to Washington, D.C. for an immersive experience in homelessness. We work with YSOP (Youth Service Opportunities Project) to provide a memorable week of working with different organizations that support people who are homeless.
It is a powerful experience to interact with a side of that city that people often never see. One student, Jake Dobbin '17, has found the week so meaningful that he has gone three times. Jake says, "I would absolutely recommend the DC trip as it is complete eye-opening experience and has given me a new perspective on the issue of homelessness...On each trip I have learned more about causes and possible solutions to end homelessness."
All Upper School students (any who has completed 9-12th grades at SLS) are welcome to sign up. The service trip will take place June 25-29, 2017. More information and the application can be found here (this information can also be accessed on the Service Opportunities Resource Board).
If you want to participate, please give your application to Ms. Parker-Burgard in the Center for Leadership by February 24.
