Lunch & Lead: U.S. Military Academy’s Cyber Security Team

NBT
Members of the United States Military Academy’s Cyber Security team gave St. Luke’s students a glimpse into the world of cyber defense. This competitive academic team resides within West Point’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Their primary mission is to prepare for, and compete in, undergraduate cybersecurity competitions. These exercises teach students how to protect and defend the country’s information systems. The team is top ranked in national and international cyber security competitions.

CPT Michael Kranch told students he was impressed that St. Luke’s held its own Hackathons. He was joined by Cadet Sergeant Mason Adam, Cadet Private Joseph Bianchi and Cadet Private Tyeson Session. The visitors shared their individual paths to West Point. Cadet Private Bianchi imparted a West Point leadership lesson to St. Luke’s Students: “It’s important to be a follower before you can lead. You have to learn how to receive orders in order to know how to give orders.”

The Cyber Security event was part of St. Luke’s Center for Leadership’s student-organized Lunch & Lead series. St. Luke’s Last year, Emma Powless ‘16 headed to West point. This fall, two St. Luke’s seniors are likely headed to the United States Military Academy and United States Military Academy Preparatory School.
