St. Luke's Boys Varsity Tennis: Season Outlook

Daniel Clarke
Although our spring games and practices are on hold due to Coronavirus precautions, we thought you'd enjoy reading this Boys Varsity Tennis Season Outlook—written before schools were asked to close. It feels good to celebrate our coaches and athletes and think ahead to getting back on the Hilltop.

The St. Luke’s Boys Varsity Tennis Team will welcome a number of new players this year, as only six players return from last year’s squad.

The Storm, who graduated Max Lehnert, Curtis Camp, and Brian Beck, will also miss the talents of last year’s number one and two: Jack ‘20 and Teddy Truwit ‘22.

James Adamini ‘20, Rutger Zenner ‘20, and Zach Amendola ‘21 captain the Storm, and Head Coach Stephen Vehslage looks to them to lead by example: “I expect our three captains to really step up this spring. We play in a tough league, but they are excellent tennis players, so I am sure they will be successful.”

The other returning players are Lucas Manocherian ‘20, Adam Rizvi ‘21, and Jack Briggs ‘21, and Vehslage is confident they will have a big impact: “Lucas, Adam, and Jack are all very good players, who will contribute a lot to the team. I know from their past performances that all of our returning players will show class and sportsmanship. That, for me, is much more important than the result.”

St. Luke’s Boys Varsity Tennis hasn’t had any time on the courts yet, so the remainder of the team will be determined once Vehslage sees all the new players in action. Vehslage is eager to get out on the courts and work with the players: “I look forward to getting to know the new players and sharing another season with James, Rutger, Zach, Lucas, Adam, and Jack. With their leadership, I think we'll gel as a team and move forward with a positive spirit.”
