Ward Named Coach of the Year

Daniel Clarke
Girls Varsity Basketball coach Matt Ward was named New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B Coach of the Year (COY) for the 2019-20 season.

In another remarkable season, Ward guided the Storm to its fifth straight FAA Title and the program’s first-ever NEPSAC final.

Despite a tough loss to Brooks School in the championship game, St. Luke’s finished the season with an overall record of 22-6, with two of those losses coming against the NEPSAC tournament champions.

Ward was voted COY by his fellow coaches and remained humble after receiving the award: “No coach ever wins this type of award without great kids and great players. I just hope I’ve had and will continue to have a positive impact on their lives. They have worked hard and enjoyed playing.”

The St. Luke’s head coach now hopes to go one better in 2021 and win the Storm’s first NEPSAC championship: “We lose a tremendously accomplished group of seniors, but we return some incredibly talented players. We will add a couple of pieces and continue to build on our individual and team success. Each year I have been at St. Luke’s, we have gotten better. If that continues next year, we will achieve great things.”
