St. Luke’s Middle School Students Participate in International Event
S.A.
At the end of November, Middle School students Aviva Moss '25, Avery Zakowich '25, and Amanda Martin ‘26, along with Ms. Yavenditti, Director of Global Education, joined 150 students across four countries for the Global Education Benchmark Group’s (GEBG) Middle School Dialogue.
This global student dialogue was part of International Education Week and centered around the theme, “Our Shared Pandemic Experiences.” Students discussed their perspectives on a variety of topics including how the global pandemic impacted their school and community, what economic, environmental, and ethical issues arose from the pandemic, what they learned about leadership during this time, and what role science plays in the community, culture, nation, and the race to a vaccine.
Avery Zakowich '25 shared, “It was nice to connect with students our age from India and other parts of the US to hear about their experiences and how government and politics impact things like the vaccine response.”
As GEBG said, “This virtual student dialogue gave students an opportunity to learn how to engage in respectful dialogue, communicate across differences, and understand multiple perspectives around a complex global issue.”
When asked about the event, Aviva Moss ‘25 shared she was a little nervous initially but quickly settled in. “It was a little rocky at first when we just jumped into our breakout rooms, but it was really interesting to hear about other perspectives and realize that we agreed with each other.”
