Middle School STEM Night Brings Science to Life

VTO
Nearly 200 students, families, and faculty members came together on the Hilltop for the SLS 2nd Annual Middle School Family STEM Night. From robotics to 3D printing, families explored hands-on activities that transformed science, technology, engineering, and mathematics from classroom concepts into dynamic, real-world experiences.

Seventh graders guided visitors through their "Life-Size Human Body Exhibition," demonstrating a deep understanding of body systems and their interconnections. In another area, 6th grade scientists shared their vision for human survival on Mars through detailed habitat models, showcasing creative problem-solving essential to space exploration. 8th grade students took on leadership roles, helping run activities and mentoring younger participants throughout the night.

“Family STEM Night was a resounding success, embodying what our community is all about: sparking joy and curiosity through interactive experiments, hands-on robotics, and engaging science demonstrations, fostering a vibrant culture of collaborative innovation and learning,” shared Mark Chuhta, Director of Middle School Special Programs and Science Teacher.

The evening captured the essence of SLS STEM education at its best: students actively engaging with complex concepts, teaching others while learning themselves, and discovering the joy of scientific exploration together.
