Debate Tournament Final Round: St. Luke’s Vs. St. Luke’s

From Middle School Debate Coach Frank Henson

The St. Luke's Middle School debate program is having a great inaugural year.  It was St. Luke’s vs. St. Luke’s as the final two debate teams faced off at Connecticut Middle School Debate League (CTMSDL) Tournament in Bethel on May 2. Seventh graders Ruth Mercedes, Laura Mercedes, and Marco Volpitta debated Amelie Warneryd, Nicole Mulleady, and Allie Vogel in front of the entire assembly in the final round. The topic was: should police be required to wear body cameras? The MS Debate Team took first and second place team awards. Marco Volpitta was first place speaker and Amelie Warneryd was sixth place speaker. Additional MS debate teams included seventh graders Andrew Wilson, Meredith Macey, and Charles Knight; Kaitlin Necakov, Victoria Whitcomb, and Ellis Beurle.

Congratulations to our Middle School debaters on this great success and thanks to parents for support!
