Sea of Blue Shirts Shows Support for STOMP Out Bullying

From Alex Levy, SLS senior and STOMP Out Bullying Ambassador:

Blue Shirt Day World Day of Bullying Prevention was created by STOMP Out Bullying, the leading anti-bullying and cyberbullying organization, in order to show global unity to kick off National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month each October. Observed at workplaces and schools around the country and around the world, Blue Shirt Day was recognized at thousands of schools this year, as well as here at St. Luke's. In addition to the unity shown on Blue Shirt Day, awareness was generated for the event through numerous outreach programs by celebrities, the New York Jets, and through the lighting of the Empire State Building in blue.

On Monday at St. Luke's we emphasized the importance of standing up and speaking out. The solidarity movement is designed to empower those feeling bullied and isolated to reach out for help and recognize the strong community around them and for those who witness abuse to come forward. It was comforting to see so many faculty members and students showing support for the cause in what will hopefully be a message of unity that rings throughout the entire year.
