Varsity Debate Wins Second Place at Hopkins Tournament

On Sunday, Feb. 28, St. Luke’s Varsity Debate Team participated in the Hopkins Debate Tournament — a virtual qualifier for the World Championship. Sally Picon ‘24 partnered with May Frelinghuysen ‘25, while Jack Sullivan ‘23 teamed up with Samantha Gerber ‘25.
Twelve other independent and boarding schools competed on topics that included defending Ukraine from Russian incursion, implementing term limits for Supreme Court Justices, and instituting compulsory voting.
With a perfect 3-0 record, Jack and Samantha’s team tied for second place, and Samantha won second best speaker overall.
