Parents Gather to Discuss “Spare Parts”

VGP
On October 28, SLS parents gathered in the Fireplace Commons for coffee and a discussion of the Summer Community Read Spare Parts by Joshua Davis. Assistant Head of School for Leadership and Innovation Jim Foley and Head of Upper School Liz Perry led the discussion and shared stories from the author’s recent visit with Upper School students. Foley and Perry discussed the book’s themes of grit, collaboration, poverty and immigration. Parents reflected on the very different challenges faced by their own children and several shared personal experiences. It was a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn more about the book, the author—and each other.

Liz Perry wrote about the ongoing impact of this book in Spare Parts: Summer Read Takes on Fall Colors.
