Dick Whitcomb is a legend on the St. Luke’s Hilltop and beyond. As Headmaster from 1980-2002, Whitcomb built a community known for its warmth and devotion to every student. Whitcomb’s leadership, humor, and compassion have carved a place in the hearts of many. His dedication to helping students from underserved communities attend St. Luke’s has literally changed lives.
“Dick Whitcomb has never really left St. Luke’s,” said Head of School Mark Davis. “His legacy is the Whitcomb Scholarship Fund and the wonderful students who are part of our community thanks to Dick.”
On Friday, October 21, 2016, St. Luke's School will host the Whitcomb Scholarship & Tribute Dinner at The Waters Edge at Giovanni’s in Darien, CT. The event will honor Dick Whitcomb’s passion and commitment to providing opportunities to underserved students. All proceeds will go to the Richard M. Whitcomb Endowed Scholarship Fund. Established by St. Luke’s in 2003, this fund benefits students with financial need who embody Whitcomb’s passion for academic curiosity, potential, and strength of character. Former Whitcomb Scholars have gone on to attend Bentley College, Emory University, and Quinnipiac University, among others.
“This is the kind of thing that keeps me going”, shared Whitcomb. “Every kid can learn and do well. They just need the right resources, and the Whitcomb Scholarship at St. Luke’s School helps provide those resources.”
In tribute to Whitcomb, an anonymous trustee of the School will match every donation made at the event up to $250,000—potentially doubling revenue. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available:
