Congratulations to Sydney Lowery '17 who hit her 2000th career point for the Girls Varsity Basketball team on Wednesday, January 18 inside the Carey Gymnasium.
Lowery became the first player in SLS history to reach the milestone when she scored her 17th point of the game against The Ethel Walker School.
The Storm went on to win the game 68-37, and improve their overall record to 12-1, but the big buzz of the night was around the Boston College recruit and her remarkable achievement.
A timeout was called immediately after Lowery made the shot so she could be honored. Athletic Director Mike West presented her with a commemorative ball and family members who were in attendance joined the record-breaker on-court for the celebrations.
The senior captain was overjoyed with her accomplishment saying, “It feels surreal to me that I made history but I want to thank my coaches and teammates who have helped me along the way. I am honored to be a part of the St.Luke's community and I am so happy something I thought could never happen did. I think it shows you should never give up!"
Head coach Matt Ward was also extremely pleased for Lowery and her efforts. “Every coach wants to have a player like Sydney. She can take over a game at will, is coachable, has the respect of her teammates and her opponents, and is fearless. I don't know of another kid that puts the amount of work into her game like she does - she's certainly a special talent, but also a terrific person."
