St. Luke’s Varsity Baseball pulled off a stunning win on Thursday evening against Brunswick School—ending the Bruins’ 35-game FAA regular-season winning streak.
The Storm took advantage of an early lead to hand the Bruins their first FAA loss since April 8, 2014 in the 11-5 win in Greenwich.
Back-to-back base hits to start the game from Ryan Neafsey ‘18 and Ryan Higgins ‘21 got the Storm going before Colin Meany ‘17 singled to drive in the first run of the game.
Brunswick evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored one run for the home side.
St. Luke’s would take the lead for good with two runs in the second inning as Andrew Correia ‘17 singled driving in Nolan O'Brien ‘19. Later in the inning, Neafsey stole home for the third run of the game.
A huge six-run sixth inning would put SLS in charge of the contest as singles by Juan Velez ‘17, Oz Jensen ‘19, O'Brien, Higgins and Correia gave them an unassailable lead despite the Bruins answering back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
O'Brien earned the win for St. Luke's after pitching seven complete innings, surrendering five runs, five hits, and striking out two.
The Storm had 17 hits in the game with Meany, Velez, Correia, Neafsey, O’Brien and Higgins each collecting multiple hits.
The St. Luke’s Baseball team is back in action Friday, April 28 at The Gunnery School at 4:15pm.
