Phoebe Kurth ‘20 started the 2020 campaign in fine form for St. Luke’s Ski Team, finishing third overall in the first FAA race of the season.
The senior captain produced two excellent runs of 23.93 and 25.79 on Wednesday, January 8, at Mount Southington, for a combined time of 49.72.
Kurth enjoyed a superb season in 2019, finishing in the top five in each of her four races and qualifying for the CT State team for the third year in a row.
The New Canaan resident is hoping for similar success this year: “My personal goal is to push myself in every race and take more risks on the course. I know if I do this it will result in even quicker times. I also want to help the team incorporate more technical skills that are necessary for competitive racing so we all enjoy a fun season together.”
Pearse Connell ‘24 also put in a fine display in her first race for St. Luke’s Ski Team. The eighth-grader finished 30th overall, with runs of 27.09 and 28.25.
In the boys’ race, Eddie Boris ‘21 finished 36th in a field of 182 racers, with runs of 28.28 and 26.85. Cal Stuart ‘22 finished in 50th place, with times of 30.24 and 27.47.
