Storm Seniors Sign NLI

Daniel Clarke
As student-athletes around the country celebrated National Signing Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, for all sports except football, two St. Luke’s seniors joined the celebration by signing their own National Letters of Intent (NLI).

Caroline Pellegrino ‘21 (University of Virginia) and Ryan Higgins ‘21 (Duke University) both signed NLIs and officially committed to attend those schools.

The NLI is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution. A prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters). The institution agrees to provide financial aid to the athletes for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters).

Pellegrino has represented the Storm in squash since seventh grade and will continue her career at UVA. Higgins, captain of the St. Luke’s baseball team, will take his talents to the Blue Devils this fall.

In addition to Pellegrino and Higgins, Julia Lombardo '21 signed on Thursday, November 12, her National Letter of Commitment to attend and play soccer at Colgate University.

Last year, a record number of athletes went on to play sports at the collegiate level. In addition to Lea Panagiotidis, who signed an NLI, twenty student-athletes from the Class of 2020 continued their athletic careers in college. A number of the Class of 2021 have verbally committed to institutions and we look forward to bringing more news on those student athletes in the coming months.
