St. Luke’s Upper School Literary & Arts Magazine: The Pendulum 2023

The Art and English departments are proud to announce the release of The Pendulum, the Upper School literary and arts magazine which features student poems, prose, photographs, drawings, and paintings.

Under the leadership of editors Josephine DeMarco '23 and Jaqueline Cecil '24, the publication's staff met several times throughout the year to review submissions and decide how to shape the magazine. DeMarco shared with “The Sentinel” that “the main challenge [of The Pendulum] is trying to garner as many submissions as possible.” To incentivize submitting to The Pendulum, the staff create smaller sub-themes and present them as contests. This year, the overarching theme is “realities,” with some of the smaller themes being “wishes” and “myths.”

Physical copies of the publication are available in the school library and at the front desk, and the digital version can be viewed here.

Thank you to Faculty Advisor for Literature Dr. Marta Napiorkowska and Faculty Advisor for Art Jeorge Yankura for guiding students through this process and helping to create a beautiful magazine.  “On behalf of the faculty, thank you for your caring, skillful leadership of the literary and art magazine all year,” said Head of Upper School Liz Perry. “The Pendulum is absolutely gorgeous, representing a terrific array of Upper School student voices and artistic visions. Congratulations!”
