On Monday, the St. Luke’s community welcomed over 90 student athletes on 11 teams from across Connecticut for the 10th annual Special Olympics CT Basketball Tournament. Working alongside The Special Olympics Unified Sports Program of Connecticut, St. Luke’s students and faculty helped organize and support the teams as they played a series of exciting basketball games. Beau Doherty, President of Special Olympics CT, said that, “We could not have pulled off today’s event without St. Luke’s help.”
Kate Parker Burgard, Director of Character Education, explained that, “This event kicks off our spring athletic season and really provides a wonderful tone for what we do here. Having the Upper School athletes there cheering on the Special Olympics athletes creates a spirit of sportsmanship and reminds us what it really means to love a game.” Student, Henry Seth ’16 said, “It’s great to see the players compete and have so much fun doing it.”
