SLS French Program Receives Highest National Ranking

VGP
The American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) awarded the AATF Exemplary French Program with Distinction ranking to the St. Luke’s French program. Upper School World Language Department Chair Jon Shee said, “we were thrilled when we learned that there was a unanimous vote from the national AATF committee, granting the SLS French program the absolute highest possible ranking for a French program in the United States.”  St. Luke’s application for this prestigious program showcased the French program’s strong enrollment, high test scores, many awards, numerous letters of recommendation and a media gallery highlighting the engaging activities and events sponsored by the French program.

The teachers of the SLS French program are Jon Shee, Amber Berry, Evan Downey, Susan Sarrazin, and Beth Yavenditti (who serves as the Director of Global Education).

Glowing comments from the AATF committee included: “St. Luke’s French students are engaged. They have fun, this shows. They’re enthusiastic, this shows. Teachers and students build and grow together, this shows. They are a community, this shows...The World Language Week seems to be an exciting moment in the school year, again showing collaboration and community within the department...Clearly, this group of teachers is loved and they love what they do...If only every program looked like this! Bravo to them!”

Shee, along with French teacher Evan Downey, will accept the award for this honor in person at the AATF national convention in Canada this summer. A resounding “formidable!” to the St. Luke’s French program and teachers for receiving this stellar ranking for their work that goes au-dessus et au-delà (Above and Beyond).
