St. Luke’s School New Kiva.Org Team

VGP
From St. Luke’s Fifth Grade Teachers:

St. Luke’s School has set up a Kiva.org team as part of the Fifth Grade Service Learning project, and there is an opportunity for school-wide participation. The fifth grade has already raised more than $1,000—all of which has been loaned to four worthy recipients in Honduras, the Philippines, Kenya and Uganda. It is a rewarding and educational experience for the students to know their hard work is helping individuals around the world to achieve more financially secure lives.

Kiva.org is “a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.”

If you are interested in making a loan through Kiva.org, it would be great to have your contribution count toward our team’s impact total. You can go to our team page, http://www.kiva.org/team/st_lukes_school_new_canaan_ct and create your own lender profile. When you make a loan, please be sure to select the St. Luke’s team as you finalize the loan amount during the checkout process. As the recipient pays back the loan, your contribution will be repaid to your individual account.  Additionally, all loans applied to the St. Luke’s team will be counted toward our impact total.

Students are encouraged to participate with their own money. An advisory group might want to do this together, or students might consider using some birthday money or asking their parents how they could earn money at home. This is an engaging way of living out the St. Luke’s motto, Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve as your loans afford terrific opportunities for entrepreneurs around the world.
