2015 Faculty Awards

VGP
On June 9, Head of School Mark Davis presented accolades and awards at the annual year-end faculty & staff meetings. The awards recognize our exemplary faculty, who regularly go above and beyond to nurture our students and enrich the St. Luke’s community.

The Dr. Joseph R. Kidd Excellence in Teaching Award went to 5th grade teacher, Ty Wieland. This Teacher of the Year award is given to a full-time teacher who exemplifies the ideals of St. Luke’s through excellence in the classroom, service to the total School community, and dedication to the well being and growth of St. Luke’s students. Mark Davis said, “Ty brings calm professionalism, confidence, respect and wisdom to the Middle School program, gentle support, integrity, consistent structure, and high standards to his classroom, and a wise, collaborative spirit to his colleagues.” Davis continued, “He cares deeply for every student and works tirelessly to engage, challenge, know, and support each individual. Students, parents, colleagues and even grandparents comment, ‘They don't come any better than that guy!’”

The St. Luke’s Crusader of the Year Award was given to Director of Studies, Jim Yavenditti. This award is given to the full-time member of the faculty or staff whose contribution to St. Luke’s far exceeds that which is expected of her or him, thereby enriching the life and effectiveness of the School. Mark Davis said, “as one colleague said, Jim luxuriates in solving thorny issues, tricky logistics, and scheduling disasters. This makes him both an indispensable and beloved colleague. He is a person of genuine grace.”

Farewells were also said with faculty who have shared their talents with the St. Luke’s community but are moving onto new adventures. These teachers were saluted by their departments and given meaningful books personally selected for them by colleagues. Departing teachers include Nick Joaquin, Galen Sanderson, Grant Russell, Emma Creeden, Sandra Comas, Siobhan Reagan, Jereme Anglin, Mary Ellen Williams and Elizabeth Preston. Collectively, they have contributed 50 years of service to St. Luke’s School.
