Solder On: designLab's First Open Maker Night

DTSmock
St. Luke’s designLab launched its first Open Maker Night on Oct. 14. Introduced by designLab Director Michael Mitchell, Open Maker Night (OMN) was the first in a series of events designed to appeal to Maker enthusiasts—from beginners to seasoned tinkerers. Mike describes the idea behind OMN this way: “One of my goals this year is to create a variety of ways for students, faculty, parents and alumni to learn more about what the designLab brings to the St. Luke's community. The OMN series was launched as the first of many pilot experiences designed to meet this goal. We offered the first session to students and their parents and introduced the skill of soldering - the process of joining electronic components together to create an electrical circuit. It was an absolute blast! Each pair worked through two small projects and were able to take home a “bug” that lights up in the dark and a game of “Simon Says”.

The designLab will continue to offer Open Maker Night on a monthly basis and rotate topics. Join the designLab for the next OMN on Wednesday, November 18!
