MS Music Chair Katie Kaplan Presents At National Music Conference
VGP
From Middle School Music Chair Katie Kaplan:
From October 25-28, I attended the National Association for Music Education National Conference in Nashville, TN. At the conference I presented a workshop on our unique Middle School program titled Discovering Voices: A Middle School Interdisciplinary Approach to Music and the Arts. The theme for this year’s conference was “Empower Creativity,” and in addition to being a presenter, I attended many dynamic and engaging sessions offered by colleagues and leaders in the field of Music Education. I attended various sessions including Improvising, Grading and Assessment in the Choral Classroom, Vocal Transformations for Secondary School Choirs, Creating Dynamic Jazz Arrangements with Your Singers, and more! I even got to meet and attend a session lead by Roger Emerson, a leading composer/arranger in the field. (We do many of his arrangements on each Middle School choir concert.)
I came back to St. Luke’s inspired and ready to introduce new methods and material to my choirs. It was a fabulous way to broaden my perspective and learn from others who are also passionately devoted to Music Education.
