Vive le Français on the Hilltop

VGP
From World Language Chair Jon Shee:

The St. Luke's School French program recently celebrated National French Week on the Hilltop. National French Week is celebrated in schools and other institutions around the country. The Dining and Student Commons were decorated with beautiful posters featuring famous quotes from French speakers, trivia tidbits, and statistics about the importance of French in the world. Many classic French dishes were served at lunch, offering students some delicious "plats.”

During an Upper School town meeting, almost 200 SLS students logged into their mobile devices to play the interactive, web-based trivia game "Kahoot" in which they raced to answer French-related questions and score points. The winner?  Mandarin teacher Yiyong Feng.

The excitement of the week culminated in a field trip to see a live, sing-along performance of the music of Édith Piaf. About 600 French students and teachers attended the performance, and SLS represented solidly with 135 French students.  Students had learned the lyrics to many of Piaf's hits during their classes, and were thus able to sing along loudly and enthusiastically with the performer, Mélanie Gall—a professional French Canadian singer who has traveled the world performing in French and English.

St. Luke’s French program recently earned the highest rank in the United States from the American Association of Teachers of French: Exemplary French Program with Distinction.  Only one other school in the country earned the same rank. Vive le français on the Hilltop!
