MS Chess Club Check In

V. Parker
The St. Luke’s Middle School Chess Club, started in September by Brent Schwartz ‘22 and Calvin Strothenke ‘22, is going strong. After a fundraiser to raise money to purchase seven chess boards and pieces, the club started meeting every Thursday during the Middle School grade lunch periods. Advisor Bruce Strothenke offers advice and strategies to the students as they play while eating their lunch. Strothenke said, “From beginner to more advanced, it’s great to see our younger students so engaged in playing this challenging yet rewarding game.” The MS Chess Club is enjoyed equally among boys and girls and participation has been as many as 18 students.
