A Fun Five Days in Québec

V. Parker
During the second week of spring break, some St. Luke’s 7th and 8th graders headed across border to Canada for the Center for Leadership trip to Quebec. Seventeen students along with chaperones Kate Parker-Burgard and Dale Griffa hit the ground running—or in this case walking—with a walking tour of the old part of the city to kick off their Canadian trip.

The next day the group visited various sites including a tour of the Parliament followed by the grand Chateau Frontenac. They went to the river at the Basilica St. Anne de Beaupre—a shrine which attracts people from around the world looking for healing miracles and then to the impressive Montmorency Falls (100 feet taller than Niagara). During a stop at a copper museum, students were able to try their hands at copper artistry. The day wrapped up with a crepe dinner and ferry ride across the mighty St. Lawrence River.

Wednesday was a true Canadian experience with wind chill factors below zero. Making the most of the day, the group spent time in a Huron community, visited a fun, interactive museum and explored the charming Quartier Petit Champlain. The day concluded with a ghost tour of the Québec.

On the fourth day, they spent the morning going back in time learning about the 1759 Plains of Abraham Battle and the life of a British soldier. The afternoon was spent snow tubing down some slopes. The evening adventures included dinner and dancing at a sugar shack outside of the city.

On the final morning, the group went to the highest observation point in the city to say farewell to Québec and then headed home. Chaperone Kate Parker-Burgard shared, “They had a terrific time on the trip. For some it was a great chance to practice a little French, for others it was the first time they traveled without their parents, but for all it was a memorable experience!”
