St. Luke’s Students Selected for Mini-Med School Internship

V Parker
Elizabeth Laub '18 and Andres Falcon Gimenez '19 had some hands-on learning this summer during the ONSF (ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education) Mini-Med School Internship in orthopedics. This selective, weeklong program was for rising juniors and seniors interested in studying STEM and medicine.

The Mini-Med School offered various lectures and workshops including ones on suturing and ultrasound. As shared on the ONSF website, "From putting on surgical scrubs to learning surgical procedures, students are introduced to the operating room environment. In addition, they learn the fine points of fluoroscopy and actually perform knee and shoulder arthroscopy on 'Alex' models."

Only 16 students from areas high schools were chosen to participate in this unique opportunity.
