The St. Luke’s Varsity Volleyball team enjoyed an impressive 3-0 victory over The Harvey School on Thursday, September 28 to improve to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in league play.
The Storm bounced back in style, following a tough 2-3 home loss to Stormers on Tuesday, September 26, with a dominant display on the road.
St. Luke’s came out strong and were quickly up 2-0 after winning the first set 25-12 and the second set 25-8. Courteney Newman ‘18 was instrumental with some well-placed kills and Ali Ferris ‘18 showed great leadership in the back row.
Harvey started the third set well taking a 6-5 lead but the Storm continued to control the game and completed the sweep 25-18. Emma Castiglione ‘18 produced an outstanding performance from the outside hitting position and co-captain Maria Minuesa ‘18 provided consistent, on-target sets throughout the match.
Head coach Abby Abbott was pleased with her team’s response: “Falling to the Stormers was a great wake up call. We were able address some of our communication and coverage errors before we face a triple-header next week.”
Next up: Varsity Volleyball prepares for a very busy week with two road trips on Monday and Wednesday against Canterbury and Holy Child. That is followed by the Maroon and White tournament on Thursday and Friday’s home matchup against Greenwich Academy. Saturday the entire program travels to Fairfield University to watch a collegiate game.
