Proving that even our youngest students can find the confidence to lead, the 5th Grade Type 1 Diabetes Club has not let the Coronavirus crisis or the move to St. Luke’s at Home interfere with their club’s essential work.
In the words of co-advisor Mary Kate DeRienzo, “They have been working hard and staying engaged; the transition from in-person meetings to distance mode has been seamless for them and entirely self-directed. I often joke that they do not need me very much. The girls schedule their own Zoom calls, invite me, and even send us out into breakout groups for discussions. They're organized, professional, and very driven.”
