The Cum Laude Society was founded in 1906 and modeled on Phi Beta Kappa at the collegiate level. Dr. Abram W. Harris, Director of the Tome School in Maryland at that time, founded the Cum Laude Society to honor scholastic achievement of students in secondary schools. Seven schools were given founding charters, and more than 350 schools are charter members today. The motto of the society is Arete, Dike, Time—Excellence, Justice, Honor.
Head of Upper School Liz Perry shared, “It's always a special day when we recognize students' academic achievements over the course of their high school careers. It was wonderful to connect and see the faces of these seniors and their parents, who were beaming with pride. Normally, we would have a celebratory, in-person breakfast. Since that was not possible this year, each family received a coffee cake that we shared virtually from our respective homes.”
St. Luke’s Cum Laude Society Committee members are:
Liz Perry, Head of Upper School and Cum Laude Chapter President Jim Yavenditti, Director of Studies and Cum Laude Chapter Secretary Susan Doran, English Teacher and Junior Class Dean Mitch Murphy, History Teacher Jason Warner, Science Teacher
