During the final Middle School Town Meeting of the 2019-2020 school year, the Middle School Leadership Awards were presented.
Head of Middle School Amber Berry announced the following awards:
Academic Growth Award: Charlie Adams ‘24 and Eliza Patty ‘24
This award recognizes students for their growth in the application of study skills, resulting in academic improvement. Also, these students made great strides in attitude, effort, academic performance, and intentional improvement.
This year, two students will be recognized for this award. The words teachers used about them include: organization, maturity, responsibility, dedication, positive, and growth mindset.
‘Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve’ Award: Joe Derr ‘24
This award goes to the student who leads in service with initiative, passion, and leadership. This student serves by contributing and helping the community move forward.
This year’s recipient is described by teachers as respectful, an active participant, a role model, a leader, one who views the St. Luke’s community as family, and someone who always does their best.
Emil Bucci Excellence in Character Award: Jackie Cecil ‘24 and Sylvia Samardzija ‘24
This award goes to two students who live by the tenets of the St. Luke’s Honor Code: honesty, kindness, respect, and responsibility. These two students are also noteworthy for their scholarship and school activities.
Jackie Cecil: The first recipient is described by teachers as always willing to help out. Thoughtful, caring, and proactive, Jackie participates fully in all areas and brings intelligence, character and enthusiasm to everything they do.
Sylvia Samardzija: The second award goes to a student whose quiet and reflective approach misses nothing. Sylvia actively seeks to be a good person. They notice others and serve as a very good friend.
Junior Loyalty Cup: Watson Meyer ‘24
This award goes to the student who exhibits intelligence plus character. They demonstrate academic excellence, loyalty to the school, and a caring sincerity to build friendships in the community, both in and outside of school.
Amber Berry: Per tradition, last year’s Junior Loyalty Cup recipient, Cessa Lewis, will pass this honor on to the 2020 honoree.
Cessa Lewis ‘23: The Junior Loyalty Cup goes to a student who is repeatedly described by teachers as committed. The whole package, this student demonstrates excellence all around. This student is diligent, academically strong, a serious athlete, a friend to all, an outstanding ambassador, humble and kind.
