Virtual Argentinian Exchange

V. Parker
A global pandemic and quarantine did not stop the Argentina exchange this year. Because we could not visit in person, teachers at St. Luke’s School and our partner school, St Martin in the Fields, jumped at the chance to collaborate virtually. “It’s been a goal of the program to connect the students virtually, but we’ve always been challenged by so many variables – tech, time, etc. But suddenly, with the quarantine, life was a bit slower and tech was at our fingertips, so we took advantage of it to lay the foundation for collaboration.” said Beth Yavenditti, Director of Global Education.

One of the highlights of each in-person exchange is being in classes together and learning from each other. Teachers and students were eager to figure out ways where that could continue this spring. Ms. Meatto’s Spanish III class created a website with their stop motion videos about life in various Spanish speaking countries after the pandemic. “We shared this work with St. Martin in the Fields and students in Gastón [Rombolá’s] class reacted to the videos. It was a really nice way to end the year and connect with the big wide world beyond our campus.” said Carrie Meatto.
Ms. Amodeo’s Spanish III students exchanged videos about their lives and experiences in quarantine. They shared a bit about their new routines and how they were making the best of the time at home. Ms. Sarrazin’s 8th grade classes also did a few different projects. Sarrazin shared, “We missed seeing the St. Martin in the Fields students so much that we decided to exchange videos and collaborate on multiple books in the month of May. Hopefully, we will get to see them when they come to visit next year.”

St. Luke's Director of Global Education Beth Yavenditti added, “Despite our distance and the current situation, our partnership thrived. We are so grateful for the teachers and administration of both schools for their hard work and support. We really couldn’t have done this without the IT support on both sides. We’re looking forward to a day when the in-person can resume and enhance the digital exchange, but, until then, together apart!”
