As the school year grew to a close, Elizabeth Mathus and Kate Stimpson, St. Luke’s Parents’ Association members and co-chairs of the SLS School Store, wanted to show some extra school spirit during St. Luke’s at Home while raising funds to support a local charity.
The co-chairs decided to create #SLSTogether t-shirts showcasing the “Calm and Kind” message, along with the hashtags used to keep the SLS community connected online during COVID-19. Shirts sold through an online reservation form—practicing social distance guidelines—with 50% of each sale being donated to a local nonprofit.
“The SLS PA Board thought selling the shirts for charity was a great idea. We as a community raised $1,450.” —Kate Stimpson
Working with Kate Parker Burgard, St. Luke’s Center for Leadership Director, Inspirica—the Stamford-based nonprofit serving individuals and families who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless—was selected as the beneficiary.
“Thank you to all the families who purchased a t-shirt and supported the drive. We are so pleased to see the SLS community rally together and give back to Inspirica.” —Elizabeth Mathus
Throughout St. Luke’s at Home, St. Luke’s has provided opportunities for students and families alike to give back virtually with activities like the Virtual 5k to Outrun Hunger—a joint effort between the Center for Leadership and Athletics—that raised nearly $18,000 for Filling in the Blanks. If you’re looking for other ways to give back to the community, see St. Luke’s Service Learning Resources for a list of opportunities, many that can be done from home.
Thank you to all of our SLSHeroes for going above & beyond in helping others.
