A Complete Transformation: Wellness & Fitness Center Opens

Daniel Clarke
The revolution of change that has transformed the St. Luke’s campus continues with the unveiling of the new Wellness and Fitness Center. St. Luke’s Athletic Department welcomes students to explore and experience the new spaces and equipment on Monday, August 31.

The reimagined space includes a new weight training zone, a cardio-specific training area, a two-story rock climbing wall, a new viewing area for squash, a running ramp, and a turf training area.

The Class of 2020 Cardio and Training Mezzanine is home to six Peloton Bikes generously donated by the Barkley family. The cardio zone has two treadmills, two ellipticals, two rowing machines, and two additional exercise bikes for the St. Luke’s students and faculty to enjoy.

The weight room has all new equipment and will be staffed by Bluestreak trainers. The certified and highly experienced instructors will be available in the afternoon to assist students with their individual workout plans, lead specialized small-group training sessions, work with coaches and players on team training programs, and provide exercise science and sports training education.

The new spectator area for squash will give supporters an enhanced viewing experience by allowing matches to be seen from above the four courts.

“...the platform for an energized community on the Hilltop to stay healthy, strong, and in peak physical condition.”

St. Luke’s Athletic Director Mike West is eager to see the new space being used by student athletes, faculty and staff, as well as the wider community: “The new space is a complete transformation of the Athletic Center’s lower-level. The state of the art fitness center will be accessible to all students and staff in the community, strengthening our commitment to the health and well-being of our entire SLS population. The squash viewing area will elevate the competitive environment for our squash student-athletes. All told, thanks in big part to the Class of 2020 Senior Gift, this project will provide the platform for an energized community on the Hilltop to stay healthy, strong, and in peak physical condition.”

Middle School students will get an introduction to the space during their P.E. classes, while Upper School students have the opportunity to sign up for tours this week here.
