St. Luke’s Students Named Semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program
S.A.
St. Luke’s seniors Jack Briggs and Cate Mathews were recently named semifinalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These two students are competing against 16,000 high school seniors from across the country for one of the 7,600 scholarships offered to academically talented students.
Jack and Cate were selected out of more than 1.5 million students who entered from across 21,000 high schools. In order to qualify as a National Merit Scholarship recipient, students must take a Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) to determine eligibility.
Both students, along with the other semifinalists, will now submit details about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, leadership abilities, and honors and awards received. To be considered as a finalist, candidates must have an outstanding high school academic record, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and write an essay.
Winners of the 2021 National Merit Scholarships will be announced beginning in April 2021.
