St. Luke’s Celebrates a Successful Walkathon

S.A.
This year’s One Step Closer to Home Walkathon, like many things, was different. The Coronavirus pandemic made the annual event both more urgent and more challenging, but our St. Luke’s community came together to rally for the cause nonetheless. Now in our 8th year partnering with Inspirica, we needed to re-imagine how to continue the walk and raise money in support of Inspirica’s mission. Since we wouldn’t be able to plan for an in-person gathering, we opted to use an app that allowed participants to track their steps for up to two weeks, beginning at the end of September and ending on October 4.

We missed feeling the energy of walking together. However, we were so pleased that the community showed their enthusiasm for the cause by walking nearly 1,000 miles and raising more than $11,500 — making the event a huge success. The funds and awareness raised through the Walkathon help Inspirica in their mission to break the cycle of homelessness.

Student walk coordinator Samantha Stevelman was thrilled by St. Luke’s participation and shared her gratitude, "On behalf of the Center for Leadership, thank you to all of the St. Luke's community for supporting our partner Inspirica! You have made a great difference in the lives of Stamford’s homeless families."

Thanks to the support from everyone who walked, donated and fundraised. We are indeed helping people in our community get one step closer to home.
