St. Luke’s Service Board Helps Combat Food Insecurity

S. Aylward
This week, St. Luke’s Service Board held a three-day food drive for the New Covenant House in Stamford. The Service Board, a student-led club born out of our Center for Leadership (CFL), initiates and coordinates a variety of service projects for students, faculty, and families. By focusing on how students can improve their communities —  along with solving problems creatively, valuing diversity, and embracing a global perspective — the CFL helps students find their voice and become authentic leaders.

On Friday afternoon, boxes and bags of non-perishable food items, such as pasta, beans, peanut butter and bottled beverages, made their way to the New Covenant House pantry to help provide a nutritious meal to those struggling with food insecurity.

The New Covenant House is one of the largest soup kitchens in Connecticut and the only site open 365 days a year. Each year, the New Covenant House soup kitchen and food pantry provides more than 700,000 meals to 3,300 people, and with COVID-19 affecting the lives of so many in the greater Stamford area, even more are relying on New Covenant House for food support. If you would like to donate food, please see their wish list for the most needed items.
