St. Luke’s Director of College Counseling Receives Faculty Award

WC
Sonia Bell, St. Luke’s Director of College Counseling and 12th Grade Co-Dean, was recently presented with the Edward B. Blakely Distinguished Faculty Award at the 19th Annual State of the School. This award, named after the school’s founder, is given to a faculty member who exemplifies St. Luke’s founding values of excellence and character.

Bell embodies both of these values and so many more. She is celebrated for her wisdom, humor, straight talk, and complete devotion to her students.

“Sonia has a magnetic pull; people gravitate toward her,” shared Stefanie Veneruso, St. Luke’s Alumni Relations Director. “Every time alumni are back on campus, it feels like the College Counseling office is their first stop. They sit there for hours, and she lets them because she has all the time in the world for her students and alumni.”

As Head of School Mark Davis remarked during the award presentation, “Sonia is unafraid to speak the truth. She knows students benefit from her courage. Sonia is as firmly in touch with her moral compass as any individual I’ve ever met. You are one of a kind and a key ingredient in the St. Luke’s Difference.”

Bell’s students were quick to jump at the opportunity to sing her praises in this well-deserved tribute.

Congratulations, Sonia!
