Artist Jenny Soep Guest Teaches Eighth Grade Studio Class
SA
This week, eighth graders in Ms. Wulfman’s studio class enjoyed a special guest, artist and illustrator Jenny Soep. Ms. Wulfman shared the following about the artist and her students’ experience.
Eighth-grade artists hunger to create work that has a real-world impact. It’s why St. Luke’s eighth grade studio students are currently exploring how they might use art to affect or provide value to a person, group, or community. They are preparing their next painting project, “A Project that Matters.”
To help inspire our students, we invited artist Jenny Soep to be a guest in their class.
Originally from Scotland and now based in Stockholm, artist Jenny Soep is most widely known for illustrating live music and other events. Her practice has evolved significantly in response to COVID-19. Most recently, she created live 'COVID-safe' portraits that show separate people huddled together, drawn on the inside of vacant store windows. This practice evolved out of a previous project with the Red Cross, where Jenny drew live portraits of immigrants to connect and communicate beyond linguistic and cultural barriers.
Jenny's partnership offers our students an exceptional opportunity to develop concepts of what they can accomplish with a brush and some paint. Jenny will remain available for support, collaboration and feedback, as students progress through their projects.
