As St. Luke’s Varsity Baseball team fans watched the Storm slug it out with King Low Heywood Thomas in an overtime inning, parents of six of the athletes were were also watching the clock. Fourteen miles away, St. Luke’s Upper School Music Department Chair Dale Griffa and twelve of St. Luke’s Acafellas waited nervously at Convent of the Sacred Heart, where by special invitation they were to perform in CHS’s Spring Concert. The Acafellas were down six vocalists, including two soloists--all baseball players. Griffa’s sigh of relief was audible as, with only five minutes to spare, the half-dozen dusty athletes raced into the auditorium to perform Wagon Wheel, I Get Around, Danny Boy, and Little Lion Man. With no time to change into jackets and ties, Kyle Andersen ‘15, Skye Andersen ‘16, Hugh Lavelle ‘16, Charles Simmonds ‘16, Brian Stute ‘16,, and Jack Tekin ‘16 sang proudly sporting their baseball uniforms (minus cleats).
