On Saturday, Dec. 11, St. Luke's varsity debate team competed against 30 high schools in the Connecticut Debate Association's winter tournament. The 221 competitors debated virtually on the topic: This house believes the U.S. should defend Taiwan. Each debate team had one hour to prepare both an affirmative and negative case on the topic, which was followed by 54-minute debate rounds that included 16-minute cross-examination periods.
Charlie Adams ‘24, Will Drapkin ‘24, Sally Picon ‘24, Dash Gilrain-Lennon ‘25, Chris Briggs ‘24, and Laurel Aronian ‘25 participated. Debate partners Drapkin and Picon and Gilrain-Lennon and Briggs placed in the top ten teams. Drapkin placed third Overall Best Speaker, and Adams achieved fourth Overall Best Speaker. With a 3-0 record, Briggs and Gilrain-Lennon remain undefeated.
