Extra! Extra! St. Luke’s Middle School has debuted its own student-led newspaper—The SLS Times. Featuring the work of fifth through seventh graders, the first edition covers everything from faculty interviews to creative writing, comics, and poetry:
"The SLS Times is more than just a newspaper—it's a space where students take ownership of their creative voice," shares Elaine Juran, Middle School English Teacher. "From developing the mission statement to crafting diverse content, our young journalists are involved in every step of the publishing process. It's wonderful to see them apply their writing skills in such an authentic way."
Under the leadership of founder, Tristan Siretsanou '32, The SLS Times provides students with real-world experience in writing and publishing. During weekly meetings, young journalists collaborate on every aspect of production—from brainstorming and drafting to editing. This student-centered approach aligns perfectly with the paper's mission: "to share human interest stories, keep the SLS Community informed, improve our writing, design, and photography skills, and have fun!"
The inaugural team of middle school reporters plans to publish three issues each school year, with their second edition already in development. Stay tuned for the next edition!
